Tata Motors Launches Nexon EV 3.0 with 600 km Range, Targets 40% EV Market Share

2 min read Economy

Tata Motors unveiled the Nexon EV 3.0 on Tuesday, its most advanced electric vehicle yet featuring a 600-kilometre range on a single charge and a new in-house developed Acti.ev+ platform, as India’s largest EV maker targets 40% market share of the passenger electric vehicle segment by 2027.

The Nexon EV 3.0, priced starting at ₹15.49 lakh (ex-showroom), comes in three variants—Air, Max, and Max Pro—with a 73 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack capable of 150 kW DC fast charging that delivers 150 km range in just 12 minutes.

Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran said the launch marks ‘India’s coming of age in electric mobility,’ noting that all key components—battery management system, permanent magnet motor, and power electronics—are indigenously engineered at the company’s Pune R&D center.

Tata Motors currently commands 35% of India’s passenger EV market, ahead of MG Motor, Mahindra, and Hyundai. The company plans to invest ₹15,000 crore in EV and battery technology through 2030, with a dedicated EV manufacturing plant in Gujarat to come online by Q2 2027.

The government’s FAME-III subsidy scheme, which offers ₹25,000-₹50,000 per vehicle to buyers of domestic EVs, continues to provide tailwinds. India’s total EV penetration in passenger vehicles crossed 6% in March 2026—still well behind China’s 35% but accelerating rapidly.

Tata Power has committed to expanding its EV charging network to 50,000 points by the end of 2026, up from the current 10,500, to address the range anxiety that remains the primary barrier to EV adoption in India.
